Division II Award of Excellence

As part of Division II’s commitment to community engagement, this annual award recognizes institutions and conferences that exemplify student-athletes giving back and leading in their communities across Divisions II. The Award of Excellence honors impactful initiatives that advance the Division II philosophy.

Who's Eligible

  • Community engagement activity or event led by a Division II institution or conference
  • Showcase student-athlete leadership and service to campus or local community
  • Highlight initiatives such as leadership development, educational programming, military appreciation, Make-A-Wish® or Team IMPACT®
  • Activity or event must occur within the stated nomination window
  • Must be an active Division II member institution or conference

How to Apply

Institutions and conferences submit applications through the NCAA online portal (Program Hub) during the application window.

Application packet must include:

  • Overview of the activity or event, including theme and how it was used
  • Description of impact on campus and/or in the community
  • Up to 10 still photos or links to videos (max three minutes each)
  • Related fliers, promotional materials and/or media coverage (print or online)
  • Single combined PDF upload that includes all components

Selection Details

Recipients are selected by an NCAA committee based on the following:

  • Division II philosophy: Demonstrates the values of balance, service and engagement
  • Community impact: Clear benefit for campus and/or local community
  • Student-athlete leadership: SAAC involvement and athlete-driven planning/execution
  • Quality & sustainability: Creativity, collaboration and potential for continued impact

Award Details

  • Number of honorees: One winner, runner-up and third place, plus one honoree from each conference (including independents/at-large)
  • Prize amounts:
    • Each conference/independent/at-large honoree: $750
    • Third-place finalist: $1,500
    • Runner-up: $1,750
    • Winner: $3,000
  • Use of funds: Prize money must be used for future SAAC initiatives or community engagement events

Important Dates

  • Applications open: September 3, 2025
  • Applications close: November 15, 2025
  • Honorees announced: January 2026
  • Recognition: January 13-16, 2026 at the NCAA Convention in National Harbor, MD
